75,000 tons of substrate contribute to the production of 25 GWh as vehicle gas. Biogas powers about 8️0 buses in swedish town.
The bio-landscape is changing so it is extremely important to keep our eyes open for everything what is going on in the whole world. During study visit in Sweden on May 26th, we visited More Biogas, company located in Kalmar.
This company was formed in February 2011 after several years of preparation. More Biogas has built a co-digestion plant which was completed in the winter of 2014. The plant produces ready compressed vehicle gas for local use. Raw materials are manure from the farmers’ farms and food waste from households in the nearby municipalities. More Biogas also has its own gas station located right next to the plant.
The raw gas contains approximately one-third carbon dioxide, which needs to be purified in order for the gas to be used as vehicle fuel. The purification takes place in the gas upgrade, which is also located at the facility.
“We use CApure technology which produces a clean gas with a very high methane content, more than 99% and the so-called the methane release is very low, 0.1%. From here, the gas is led to compression and further out to the gas storage and locally located gas tank” says Erik Timande, deputy director of More Biogaz.
Referring to the data, 75,000 tons of substrate contribute to the production of 25 GWh as vehicle gas. Biogas powers about 8️0 buses in swedish town!
During study visit, we also have heard about:
- Current situation on national support for biogas;
- Small-scale LNG production project (Wärtsilä);
- Mobile LNG-filling station.
It is really important to demonstrate the benefits of work under real conditions. The main goal of Circular NP project is not only redistribution of nutrients which will decrease surplus on farms with high animal density, but also reducing risk of negative impact on the Baltic Sea.“The company extracts elements from fertilizer and phosphorus. The resulting materials are then further recovered and used or sold. As a result, almost nothing is wasted” says EkoBalance CEO.
Wärtsilä, Puregas, Kalmar
This is a small-scale LNG production project which also has been discussed. Biogas upgrading head office is in Kalmar. They focuses on producing more methan and upgrading it. According to liquifaction – really important is the quality of LNG and distribution change. If the quality is good, they can pressaruize it to 20 bar, cool it, and deliver to storage tank: no boil of gas, no flash gases. The next step is upgrading and polishing: puregas CA technology which integrate two stage solutions:
- 1st stage co2 bulk removal at atmospheric pressure;
- 2st stage co2 polishin at 20/60 barg pressure.
L-energy project
Micro and nanoscale bioLNG market may be a niche, but as companies approach this market, thy should be prepared to react quickly. Direct use of bioLNG, as opposed to the traditional model of regasification and subsequent introduction into the gas transmission grid, requires a change of paradigm. That change unlocked by new technical solutions – addressing a new <micro-scale> market with a focus on bioLNG.
Decentralised solution for end-users is a foreseen complementary possibility as a contribution to the energy transformation. Mobile LNG-filling station has been presented. BioLNG can be locally produced, but regionally used.
Conference 2023
The two-days event focuses on using micro- and nano-scale bio-LNG and LNG. We are aiming at creating a platform for exchange experience and define common challenges and discuss existing and / or missing technological and non-technological solutions.
- When: from 14 to 15 June 2023
- Where: Pomeranian Science and Technology Park, Street: Aleja Zwycięstwa 96/98, Gdynia, 81-451.
